Science and Technology

Science and technology are two terms that are often used together in the same sentence. It seems as if science and technology are dependent on one another to further the studies and development of each subject of study. In one of its more simple definitions, science refers to the history and study of the natural world in accordance to human understanding. Technology, is in turn, defined as the ability of humans to manipulate that understanding. The study of technology and science in one that not only gives insight to these particular areas of knowledge, but is an effort that gives a glimpse to the history of mankind as well. The study of science is as old as the ability of the human race to think freely and question the nature of existence. Arguably, technology itself is just as old. An example of this can be traced back to the history of man as documented by historians.

Through history, various cultures and societies have proven mankind’s ability for scientific thought. From the moment humans discovered fire to the extremely complex and comprehensive history left behind by the Aztec civilization. Both instances, early man and the Aztecs have left behind evidence of scientific thought by archaeological findings and artifacts. Cave drawings and pictographs have shown evidence of early man’s ability to think rationally and scientifically; Amazing architectural structures and detailed hieroglyphics left behind by the ancient Aztec people have proven there surprising and intricate understanding of science, particularly in complex fields of science such as mathematics and astrology. Not surprisingly so, the very same evidence and artifacts that early man and the Aztec civilization have left behind not only depict a knowledge of science, but of technology as well. Early man’s capacity to understand how to make a fire through friction or the mystery behind the construction of massive pyramids with geometric and astrological connections boast that both held not only an understanding of science, but also of technology. The history human kind has shown how science and technology are often two aspects that work together.

This idea of technology and science working together as one is more and more evident in humankind’s present day. It seems that science and technology, more so than ever, have an impact mankind with the advances each have made in the past century. More so, their impact itself can lend to the idea that advance in science beget advances in technology, and creation of new technology will further the studies and effectiveness of science knowledge.

Science and technology have both served together as one to better the lives of human beings throughout the world. With out advances in technology and science, many of the things people take for granted, such as computers, cell phones, automobiles, etc., may have never been realized. It is thanks to studies in science and technology that mankind has gathered a better understanding of the natural world and has been able to devise ways and machinations to apply that knowledge for the betterment of the human condition.
